| MSLQMRA is now entering it's 11th
year of quarter midget racing. Our track is located 3 miles west
of Bunker Hill on the Bunker Hill-Brighton Road. Our track is a
dirt track. Quarter Midget racing is a
competitive sport for children ages 5 - 16; however, the whole family
is invited to get very involved. Of course every driver
needs Crew Chief and Mechanic. Workers are also needed on a
weekly basis working in the Tower helping score races, working
in the snack bar, helping with flagging, pit stewarding, and various
other race day and club activities. So there are jobs for all
members of the family!
The cars are essentially ¼-scale Midget race
cars. Unlike Go-Karts, Quarter Midgets feature full four wheel
independent suspension and full roll cages. Seat belts and shoulder
harnesses are mandatory. Power comes from a variety of engines - both
Honda and Deco and Briggs & Stratton type 120-150cc engine, which
specifications are closely set by the national governing board and
enforced at each local club race by officials. Most tracks are 1/20
mile banked ovals comprised of dirt, concrete, and asphalt surfaces.
The benefits are virtually immeasurable:
It's a family sport - all races are staffed and
run by family volunteers from local tracks. Families work hard to develop and maintain
facilities and clubs for racing enjoyment. Members take great pride in
their facilities knowing that it took all of them to develop, create,
and maintain a club that they are proud of.
Drivers develop physical skills such as coordination, timing,
alertness, basic mechanical theory.
Internal strength is developed through sportsmanship, self-reliance,
accomplishment and recognition.
It's just plain fun! And if you are an Open Wheel Race Fan you will
notice that over the years many of the racing stars of today got their
start in quarter midget racing! |
